On the Relevance of Painting and Other Thoughts (2020 - ongoing)

Work Description:
Painting is a unique medium in that it has never emerged from the existential crisis caused by its liberation through photography, yet at the same time, it has not become obsolete because of it. At least, that is my observation. As an art student, I searched for a text that analyzes how the medium of painting can be used from an artistic perspective. This requires both a conceptual approach to art and the conviction that it is possible to convey something through art. However, most people who write about painting are not engaged in painting as part of their own artistic practice, and I suspect that this is why such a text does not exist.
In my exploration of painting as a medium of artistic expression, I found it very practical—actually necessary—to have some kind of orientation on what can be effectively expressed through painting. Since I could not find one, I decided to conduct such an investigation myself.
During the process, this investigation took on different forms and raised various questions. To provide a clear overview and do justice to this vast subject—while avoiding creating more confusion than clarity—I assigned some of the fundamental aspects that emerged during my work to separate books. As a result, this project, which will remain in progress for several years, consists of four artist books, each approaching the topic from a different perspective. In addition, as a form of completion rather than illustration, a body of paintings is being created. Many pieces from this body of work are also available.
